The more specialized areas of orthodontics and prosthetics focus on correcting faults or damage in the bite. The orthodontic treatments performed can, for example, correct crowding or move a tooth that would otherwise damage an antagonist or soft tissue nearby. Prosthetics used in animal dentistry are primarily aimed at resetting a damaged bite in a working animal, such as for a canine tooth fracture in a hunting or police dog.
